Perfecting Smiles with Porcelain Veneers in Ardmore

Dr. Jamie Guthrie is the dentist Ardmore adults trust for transformative cosmetic procedures, and porcelain veneers are one of the most popular options for improving imperfect smiles. Completed in just two visits to the dentist, they are a minimally-invasive treatment option that restores or enhances the size, shape, color, and overall appearance of the teeth that show when you smile.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Applied?

Veneers are bonded securely onto the front surface of the teeth that show when you smile. These “social six” are the ones that make or break your smile, so focusing on them really transforms the overall impression of your teeth.

The treatment is completed over the course of two appointments to Dr. Guthrie’s office.

Local anesthesia is available for your complete comfort during each step of the porcelain veneer procedure.

Procedure for Porcelain Veneers

To begin, Dr. Guthrie will make room for each veneer by removing a small layer of enamel from the surface of the teeth. Adding another layer of porcelain might make your smile look bulky otherwise. Then we will take impressions of your prepared teeth. This information will be sent to the lab, where your veneers are crafted by an expert ceramist.

You wear temporary veneers in the time between appointments. Take care with these, avoiding hard, sticky, or crunchy foods until you have received your permanent veneers.

During the second appointment, your veneers are ready for the final placement. Dr. Guthrie checks to make sure everything is as it should be, removes the temporary veneers, and applies an etching acid to roughen up the tooth surface to encourage bonding. Then, each veneer is securely cemented onto the teeth and your new smile is revealed.

Who is a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Most adult patients who are in adequate oral health are good candidates for dental veneers. We don’t advise patients to have veneers applied before they turn 18, as an unexpected growth spurt would require veneer replacement to cover up the new tooth growth. Additionally, patients should be in good oral health, free from tooth decay and gum disease, for the most effective veneer placement. We recommend a checkup and cleaning before beginning the veneer treatment.

Porcelain Veneer Maintenance

After we place your permanent porcelain veneers, you will be able to eat your usual diet and brush and floss your teeth as normal. Protect the dental porcelain from chips and cracks by investing in a custom-fitted mouthguard if you play contact sports or grind your teeth at night. Contact your cosmetic dentist if a veneer breaks or becomes loose. With proper maintenance, you will be able to enjoy your dental veneers for a decade or more.
